Obituary of the late Thulisiwe Roseline Buthelezi
Thulisiwe Roseline Buthelezi was the third of six children born to Francina Nogoli and Lucas Mguli Nkosi. She was born a premature baby at the Orlando Clinic on 16 September 1947. The nursing staff knicknamed her ‘Mbijana’ because of her tiny stature.
The Neonatal ward was ill equipped, as a result they created a makeshift incubator by putting her in a black shopping bag placed close to a coal stove to keep her warm.
“Sisi”, as she was affectionately known, remained of small stature but everyone that knew her can attest to her big warm heart.
Sisi started her schooling at the Swedish Pre-school; then went to White Church Lower Primary School; then to Ipatleleng Higher Primary School. She completed her secondary education at Orlando High School where she was also a 100m sprint athlete an expert bottle racer. Sisi enjoyed singing and listening to choral music. She sang with her siblings making family functions memorable. She also used her soprano voice in praise and worship in church.
She started work as a seamstress at Novaknit Heavy Industries, a clothing manufacturing company in Fordsburg.
In March 1977 she was joined in holy matrimony to Simon Ndomi Buthelezi. The Buthelezis were blessed with a son, Sizile Lindani Buthelezi and with a grandson Sphamandla Buthelezi.
Her passing has brought sorrow to many, but she will be especially missed by her surviving siblings Philemon Zwelikude Nkosi, Lydia Jabhisa Ngubeni and Hilda Zandile Xorile. She joins in glory her two siblings Ida Neo Nhlapo and George Melekeleli Nkosi.
