Obituary Of The Late Jacob Phungula

The late Jacob Phungula , fondly known as Mjekana, Pono and more prominently as Bushjack was born in Moroka, Soweto on 12 April 1975. He was the second child of 4 children of the recently departed Jerome and Sisiwami Gertrude Njilo. He spent most of his childhood years in Moroka, where he used to attend Realeka Youth Club and his love for the creative industry was nurtured.

Jacob began his primary schooling in Molalatladi and completed his matric at Mafori Mphahlele High School. Jacob played football for Hungry Lions Under 12 team in 1986 where he was the club's Goalkeeper. In early 90's he played for Ebony Basketball Club in Rockville where he was instrumental in the promotion of basketball in Rockville and Soweto. In 1993 Jacob went to further his studies in the then Technikon Of Northern Transvaal where he majored in Architectural Technology in the built in environment. He was active in the creative arts industry whereby his love for music stretched him to all genres  from house to dance hall as Dj Bushjack.

Jacob was an active member of the ANC of ward 33 therein contributed to the real ethos and values of the movement. Passionate about self employment  Jacob ventured into business where he contributed to the Built-in-industry through architecture. His architectural prowess will live on through his work in projects such as SABC Offices Bisho, Mount Frere Social Cluster Offices  and Lethaba Hospital amongst others.

He got married to his childhood sweetheart Mpho on ??? and together they enjoyed their union , always seen together at family events and holidaying with friends. He is survived by his wife Mpho, 3 siblings Seipati, Sibongile, and Zwelakhe, 3 Nephews and 4 Nieces.

Jacob will be remembered for being a hard worker, being  a great host, standing up firmly for what he believed in, he was passionate about life and good food. We thank God for his life and may his soul rest in peace.
