Obituary Of The Late Ntombikayise Wesline Benedicta Vilakazi

Called to Serve…

A mother, a sister, an aunt, a friend and colleague to many Sister Ntombikayise Wesline Benedicta Vilakazi was born in Dube Soweto, into a world short of the colour, energy and the vibrant smile that she brought into it. The daughter of the late Philemon “Boy” Vilakazi and Evelyn Vilakazi was known to be a nurturer, a lover and care giver with a burning urge to aid and be of service to those around her. Growing up in the Catholic Church, she was an active member of the Our Lady of Fatima parish as she participated within the youth and young adult structures before finding her voice within the St Cecilian Sodality (Choir).

Upon completing her secondary schooling, she then answered her call to serve within the health care sector to pursue a nursing profession which began with her completing her training at the Baragwanath Nursing College and became a registered nurse in 1987.

After a few years of working within the government hospital structures, as a lover and advocate for education, she further pursued her studies with a focus on the fight against HIV/AIDS as she worked within the Perinatal HIV Research Unit (PHRU) and later returned to the government sector as a Clinic Manager which highlighted her leadership strengths and ignited her passion for teaching.

Being the studious and committed person that she was, in 2015 Sister Ntombi, as she was affectionately known went back to further her studies at the North West University as she specialized in Nursing Education. Thereafter, she joined the Ann Latsky Nursing Institution as a tutor and later an OHS manager until her passing.

She is survived by her beloved son Sicelo Vilakazi and brother Oupa Vilakazi.

She will forever be remembered for her loving heart, elegant style, her smile and infectious laugh and bubbly spirit that could light up any room.

Farewell Ntombi yakwa Vilakazi.

Hamba kahle Sihlali! Mavundla! Thabethe!
