About the Event

Obituary Of The Late Odin Thabo Mpolenyane

Thabo Odin Mpolenyane, aged 56, died unexpectedly and tragically on the 9thof July 2021. Odin as amiably and popularly known, was born on the 9thof February 1965 in Tladi, Soweto. He was the first born of 3 children from Zacharia Mpolenyane and Winniefred Mpolenyane.

He attended school at Merafe Lower primary School, Dumelang Primary and later matriculated at Thesele Secondary School. Without the benefit of post matric education, Odin was a trend-setter and pathfinder in his own right. He is among the first to reside in white dominated areas in Post-Apartheid South Africa. He married Lerato in 2016 and they were blessed with children.

Odin always took pride in never having to work for a white man in his entire existence. He was an entrepreneur, self-employed and a social activist. He was a family man, who was surrounded by lots of love, support and care from his family, friends and brotherhood. He loved and cared for his wife and children.

Odin was a peaceful man, full of humility and civility. He was full of laughter and he was humorous. One of his strong character traits was his ability to make friends with ease across the African continent. This earned him the admiration, and perhaps the jealousy of many among his peers.

Thabo Odin Mpolenyane is survived by his loving wife Lerato, and beautiful children (Kabelo, Naledi, Amohelang, Khauhelo and Khanya), his mother Winnie, brother Brian and nephews and nieces.

He will immensely be missed by his family and friends. He will never be forgotten.
